Dear Herricks Families:
This summer, we are hosting our second annual Summer Writing Program @ Herricks High School for students entering grades 9-12 in the fall.
This program will take place from Monday, 8/12 – Friday, 8/16. Classes will be in the high school from 9:00-12:00. The director/lead teacher of the program is our very own published author and singer/songwriter Alan Semerdjian. He will run writing workshops daily for students to work on their own creative writing – whether they’re interested in writing fiction, poetry, nonfiction, plays or other types of writing.
Joining us to work with students for one session will be the poet Chia-Lun Chang. Chang is the author of a chapbook, One Day We Become Whites (No, Dear/Small Anchor Press). A semi-finalist for the 2017 Discovery / Boston Review Contest, she has received support from Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, the Center for Book Arts and Poets House. Born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, she lives in New York City.
The goal of the Summer Writing Program is to engage students in an intensive week-long study of their own writing. At the end of the week, students will have created new work and received feedback. We hope that this week will inspire and encourage students to continue honing their craft to one day publish their work.
The cost of the program is $150 per student. Attached, you will find the application. Please make all checks payable to Herricks School District and send the application and the check to the address listed.
We hope that your child will come join us for our first Summer Writing Program @ Herricks!
Sincerely,
Michael Imondi, Ed.D.
Director of ELA, Reading, and Library Services, K-12
